For the first time in Uzbekistan, a driver has exceeded the 12-point threshold under the country’s new traffic violation tracking system. A video documenting the case was released by the Road Safety Service of the Interior Ministry.
According to official data, 11 other drivers have already accumulated between 8 and 10 points. This group includes five offenders from Tashkent, three from the Surkhandarya province, and one each from the Namangan, Samarkand, and Tashkent provinces.
The driver who reached 12.5 points admitted he didn't take the new regulations seriously.
"I racked up 12.5 points over the course of a year. To be honest, I didn't believe the 12-point system was actually being enforced," he said. "I was summoned to the Road Safety Department, where I saw my points with my own eyes and realized the system is very real. Now my case is headed to court, and I’ll likely lose my license. My advice to other drivers is simple: abide by the rules."
The Road Safety Service clarified that since July 1, 2025, points have been issued based on citations from patrol officers. Starting April 1, violations captured by automated traffic cameras also contribute to a driver's score.
Points are issued for various offenses, including running red lights, illegal parking, driving against traffic, and speeding. Drivers receive an automated SMS alert once they reach 8 points; if they exceed 12, their license may be revoked by court order.
