A fresh spill of oil-mixed fluid has been reported in the Boysun district of the Surkhandarya province, the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change said.

The agency stated that a task force - comprising officials from the provincial environmental department, the Eco-Police, and other relevant agencies—has been dispatched to the site. The situation is currently being assessed on the ground.

Preliminary findings indicate that at 6:30 AM on May 2, a powerful flash flood breached a containment trench, triggering the leak of the oil-laden mixture. "The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided upon its conclusion," the official statement read.

This is not the first environmental incident of its kind in the area. On April 24, significant pollution was recorded in the Surkhandarya River in the Kumkurgan district. According to the Ministry of Water Resources, heavy rains caused floodwaters to overflow into temporary oil reservoirs managed by the Eriell company, which were established in January. The floods swept away 1.2 tons of oil mixture downstream, resulting in damages estimated at over 8.5 billion soums.

It is worth noting that in January of this year, an oil mixture leak also occurred at the "25 Years of Independence" (M-25) gas field in Boysun. At the time, the Ministry of Energy reported that the mixture was being continuously transported to two specialized, 5,000-cubic-meter lined sludge ponds to "ensure its safe storage and subsequent processing."
