President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is set to attend the 59th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Board of Governors, being held in Samarkand on May 3–4, the presidential press office said.
The president will deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony and hold a series of bilateral meetings with heads of foreign delegations.
Themed "Bridge to the Future," the forum serves as a premier international platform for debating the strategic priorities of global and regional economic development. Discussions will center on the "green" transition, energy shifts, digitalization, investment attraction, and food security, as well as the resilience of industrial supply chains.
The summit, running from May 3 to May 6, will bring together delegations from over 100 countries. High-level representatives from the ADB, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank will join approximately 2,000 foreign government officials, top executives from multinational corporations and banks, and leading global experts. In total, more than 4,000 delegates are expected to attend.
Uzbekistan joined the ADB in 1995 and has since become one of its primary partners, with a combined project portfolio nearing $16 billion. This marks the second time the country has hosted the bank’s annual meeting; the 43rd session previously took place in Tashkent in May 2010.
