Earlier today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the charter of the Board of Peace, proposed by the US President Donald Trump, in Davos.

During the ceremony, representatives of the founding countries, two at a time, sat next to the US president to sign the charter of the Board.

The event was attended by leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Argentina, Paraguay, Hungary, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.

For approximately 20 minutes before the official signing ceremony, the US president referred to the Board of Peace participants as "stars," declaring them to be "the biggest and most important people in the world."

"This isn't just a Board of Peace, it's an action board," US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a brief statement after the signings. "This will be a successful initiative, and you see that here today—in the presence of countries from different backgrounds and from different parts of the world."

The president Trump stated that he wanted the Board of Peace to work "in concert" with the United Nations, despite his criticism of the UN for failing to tap its potential.

"Once this board is fully formed, we will be able to do virtually anything we want, and we will do it in concert with the United Nations," he said in Davos. "I've always said the UN has enormous potential. It hasn't been tapped, but the potential is truly enormous."

The Board of Peace was initially conceived as an international body to govern the Gaza Strip as part of the peace plan brokered by Trump in October 2025. However, its charter does not limit its activities to Gaza, raising concerns that the US President intends to create an alternative to the UN.
