A unified system of school exams will be introduced in Uzbekistan from the new academic year, announced the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today at a meeting with teachers in Bostanlyk district of Tashkent province, his spokesman Sherzod Asadov said.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev pointed to the key role of school education in the development of the country.
“The future of our people begins with school. After all, the longest and, one might say, decisive period in the upbringing and education of our children is school education,” he said.
6.5 million students are now studying in schools in Uzbekistan. This year, 720 thousand first-graders joined their ranks, and about 400 thousand schoolchildren completed their studies.
According to him, over the past eight years, almost 500 new schools have been built in the country and existing ones have been expanded, which has made it possible to create an additional 1 million student places. Over 200 thousand children are studying in private schools.
The President announced that starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, unified state exams will be introduced for 9th and 11th grade students, based on which schoolchildren will be sent to either vocational or unversities, taking into account their abilities.
Expectedly, this will allow about 400 thousand 9th graders to study in technical schools.
