Train hit a GM Gentra at a non-regulated railroad crossing between Chartak and Uychi stations in Namangan province Saturday.
There were six people in the car - five women and a small child. As a result of a powerful strike, no one in the car survived, the press service of the Uzbekistan Railways said.
According to available information, the driver, in gross violation of Traffic rules, attempted to cross the railroad tracks right before the train approached.
The tragedy could not be avoided in spite of the train drivers applying emergency brakes.
The train received minor damage.
“The incident once again raises the issue of drivers failing to comply with basic safety standards,” the company noted. They called on drivers to abide by the rules and exercise extreme caution near railroad crossings.
