A minor girl driving a GM Spark fell into a canal in the Uchkurgan district of Namangan province on March 23, the provincial road safety department said.

A local resident handed over control of the car to his 16-year-old daughter, who had no driving experience, and sat in the front passenger seat. The girl's mother and her 10-year-old younger sister were in the back seat.

While driving on an internal road, the teen girl lost control on a dangerous turn and drove into the Andijan Canal while maneuvering to the right.

Reportedly, the teen’s mother and sister died from water getting into their respiratory tract. The girl and her father were hospitalized with injuries.

The provincial road safety department reported this incident in a video footage, in which it also reported another fatal accident in the same area. A teenager, having taken a car without his parents' knowledge, ran over a fourth-grade student, who died from his injuries in hospital.

9,364 road accidents were officially registered in Uzbekistan in 2024, in which 8,901 people were injured and 2,203 were killed.
