Uzbekistan is introducing a cash rebate program for foreign film companies that shoot feature films, television series, and documentary projects within the country, under a new regulation approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The initiative will be coordinated by the Tourism Committee, which is set to launch a dedicated platform called Film in Uzbekistan by November 1 to handle applications.
To qualify for the rebate, foreign production companies must register their project, complete a verification process, secure a unique identification number, and partner with a local Uzbek production company. The local partner must hold a business sustainability rating of no lower than "B."
Within 60 days of wrapping production, the foreign producer must submit all financial documentation, including contracts, electronic invoices, receipts, and proof of payment. Only goods and services purchased directly from tax residents of Uzbekistan will be eligible for reimbursement.
The rebate percentage scales based on the total verified expenditures (converted at current approximate rates):
- Up to 3 billion UZS (~$230,000 USD): 10%
- From 3 to 5 billion UZS (~$230,000 to $385,000 USD): 15%
- From 5 to 10 billion UZS (~$385,000 to $770,000 USD): 20%
- Over 10 billion UZS (~$770,000 USD): 25%
The maximum payout per film is capped at 4 billion UZS (~$308,000 USD). Additionally, the Tourism Committee is required to publish an official catalog of filming locations—including historical monuments, public parks, and other landmarks—along with an inventory of available props by October 1.
