Inessa Papernaya, a journalist of the Russian news publication Lenta.ru, and her boyfriend, Maxim Radchenko, 45, were staying at the Karaman Palace Hotel in Mirabad district. On October 20, they did not come down for breakfast in the morning. When the hotel staff knocked on the woman's room, no one answered.

After that, the staff entered the room and witnessed Inessa and Maxim lying lifeless in the bathroom. In another room of the hotel, an Uzbek national named Khushnud Udekov was also found dead. Later, the ordered forensic medical examination found that their deaths had occurred due to respiratory failure due to acute carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide poisoning.

The director of Karaman Palace Hotel, A. Khojakulov, and the plumber, N. Kurbanov, together installed a heating boiler in the hotel. However, the boiler was faulty and had undergone hand-made modifications to its design, namely the siphon in the condensate discharge system had been removed.

According to the source, within the framework of the case, the hotel owner A. Khojakulov, Z. Jamoldinov and A. Yusupov, who sold him the heating boiler, and N. Kurbanov, who installed it, are now facing, the manufacturing, storage, transportation or sale of goods that do not meet safety requirements, performance of work or provision of services that caused the death of people charge of the Criminal Code. All of them were taken into custody as a precautionary measure.
