The United Nations in Uzbekistan welcomes the adoption of the Concept of Administrative Reform in the Republic of Uzbekistan on 8 September 2017.
The Concept outlines priority reforms aimed at creating an effective and transparent public administration system in line with the Development Strategy 2017-2021, contributing to ensuring and protecting citizens’ rights and freedoms.
The adoption of this Concept is an important step towards building transparent, effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels in the country. The implementation of the Concept will contribute to fulfilling the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, and specifically Goal 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
Since 1993, the UN system in Uzbekistan has been supporting the Government in strengthening public service delivery and the protection of rights. Our assistance has included providing international expertise and guidance on best practices and knowledge transfer, along with innovative pilot initiatives and policy advice to national partners in the area of effective governance and evidence-based policy making. The UN has also fruitfully collaborated with Government in the areas of civil service reform, e-governance, effective public service provision, and local governance and regional development.
In cooperation with national and international development partners, the United Nations in Uzbekistan is committed to further support the Government in implementing the provisions of the Concept of Administrative Reform. Our work will continue to be guided by the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for Uzbekistan and in particular, the jointly agreed outcome area focused on improving the quality of public administration for equitable access to quality public services for all by 2020.
