Space monitoring conducted by the Environmental agency year-to-date found that there were 1,928 illegal landfills on an area of ​​about 721 hectares in Uzbekistan. Of these, 123 with a total area of ​​255.5 hectares are registered as located outside waste storage sites, and 1,805 with a total area of ​​465.2 hectares are registered as illegal waste landfills.

In particular, 243 landfills (63.2 hectares) were found in the Karakalpak autonomy, 168 (22 hectares) in Khorezm province, 92 (91.7 hectares) in Bukhara province, 216 (112.4 hectares) in Navoi province, 147 (41.2 hectares) in Samarkand province, 81 (79.3 hectares) in Kashkadarya province, 180 (42 hectares) in Andijan province, 195 (65.2 hectares) in the Namangan province, 164 (51 hectares) in Fergana province, 363 (98.6 hectares) in the Tashkent province, 39 (30.44 hectares) in Jizzakh province and 40 (20.11 hectares) in Surkhandarya province. These illegal waste landfills are primarily dangerous because they have a major negative impact on the environment, and also negatively affects the quality of soil, water and air. In addition, they contribute to an increase in the number of harmful insects, infectious diseases, the development of lung cancer and respiratory diseases in humans.
