Truck drivers could be held accountable for driving in the far left lane of the road in proposed amendments to the Code of Administrative Liability, which was discussed in the Senate today.

In the Traffic Regulations, from May 1, 2022, trucks are allowed to move on the far left lane only for left turns or U-turns; in other cases, they are not allowed to drive in the far left lane.

Due to the lack of accountability in the legislation, in most cases, truck drivers move freely in the left lane, which leads to traffic jams and accidents on the roads, the Senate said in a statement.

In particular, 303 road accidents involving trucks have occurred over the past seven months, in which 108 people were killed and 227 were injured.

Taking this into account, it is planned to insert liability in the Administrative Liability Code for driving trucks in the far left lane of the road (except for permitted cases).

While, the amendments proposed to insert administrative liability for offenses committed using scooters, personal mobility devices (PMDs, which include electric scooters, electric skateboards, segways, unicycles, monowheels and similar means of transportation), as well as for the transportation of people by PMD and scooter drivers.
