Today, the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev in a telephone conversation spoke to the Russian president Vladimir Putin, the presidential press service said.
The parties reportedly discussed the ways to develop the Uzbek-Russian strategic partnership and alliance ties.
They commended the growing bilateral trade and economic cooperation figures. The two-way trade increased by 10% to $13 billion, and has risen by another 32% year-to-date.
Major cooperation projects in industry, energy, transport, and other sectors of the economy continue to be implemented.
"Particular attention is being paid to advancing the project to build the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan," the statement read.
Uzatom and Rosatom today signed a roadmap for the nuclear power plant project contract. The project will be implemented in a new configuration, with a combination of large and small power units. Concrete work has already begun at the site in Jizzakh province.
The parties also commended the effectiveness of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.
The two leaders noted that Uzbekistan and Russia were actively preparing for the next International Industrial Exhibition "Innoprom. Central Asia" in Tashkent in April.
They also exchange views on current international issues, including the situation in the Middle East, South Asia, and Ukraine, the statement added.
The schedule of upcoming events was also discussed.
