12 foreign nationals and 18 Uzbeks were arrested in Tashkent’s Yakkasaray district on suspicion of organizing online gambling in a rented house, the press service of the Tashkent City Police Department said.
The police department, together with other law enforcement agencies, conducted an operation.
Reportedly, based on operational information, the inspection of one of the houses with the participation of witnesses, discovered that online gambling was organized in this house rented by foreign nationals.
37 laptops, $1,400 in cash, 34 SIM cards, 7 phones and 12 bank cards were seized as evidence. The investigation found established that the turnover in this house over three months topped $900 thousand.
A criminal case has been launched on this fact under Illegal organization or holding of gambling and other risk-based games, including the organization or maintenance of dens for such games charge, which is punishable by imprisonment for up to 7 years.
There are bans on the organization and holding of gambling and other risk-based games in Uzbekistan, which were adopted on September 1, 2007.
Earlier, president signed a decree will allow the organization of online risk-based games and bookmaking activities from 2025. The goals are to protect the rights of citizens, combat gambling addiction and prevent the outflow of money, the NAPP reported.
