President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed construction progress on a bridge over the Karadarya River during a visit to Samarkand province, the president’s press office said.
The bridge will connect the Shirin district, which is under construction, with the city of Samarkand and its international airport. It is designed to streamline traffic flows, improve road safety and reduce congestion, the press office said.
The project is valued at 310 billion soums ($25.8 million). The bridge will be 780 meters long, 29.8 meters wide and 2 meters high. It will have four lanes and a capacity of up to 25,000 vehicles a day.
Once the bridge opens, the distance from the Shirin district to the city center will shrink from 23 km to 4 km, and travel time will fall by 30 minutes, according to the statement.
Mirziyoyev was briefed on the project’s technical solutions and on ways to manage traffic flows, the press office said.
