On July 17, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Measures to set up the American University of Technology (ASU) Decree in Tashkent.
As reported earlier the opening of a university in partnership with Arizona State University was discussed at a meeting between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the founder and CEO of Cintana, Douglas Becker, in New York last September. Then, a memorandum was signed between the Agency for Strategic Reforms, Arizona State University and Cintana Education on setting up of a university in Tashkent.
ASU will become the second American university in Uzbekistan after Webster University, will starts admissions in the 2024/2025 academic year. The university will have “full academic, organizational and financial independence.” It will offer programs in engineering, healthcare, information technology, architecture and design, economics and finance, and international relations.
Graduates will be awarded a diploma from Arizona State University or a partner foreign university recognized in the United States (from among the top 200 universities globally). The diploma will be recognized in Uzbekistan.
Cintana Education has undertaken to make investments of $30 million in 2024-2030 and $20 million in 2030-2035 to create a university and launch its activities, as well as spending at least 50% of investments on the formation of financial -technical base of the university.
The company must also ensure the formation of the university’s library fund, its replenishment with modern literature, and also create opportunities to use the library fund of Arizona State University.
The university will be located in buildings and structures leased for 49 years on Beshagach street (house 1) in Tashkent. As of the next academic year, land area must be allocated in Tashkent for the construction of a university campus.
