The new Uzbek Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Alisher Shaykhov, left for London on Friday, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

Alisher Shaykhov (61 years old) is a graduate of Tashkent State University (1979), majoring in economics, has a Ph.D/ degree. (1983). Prior to this appointment, for 11 years - from April 2006 until the end of June this year he headed the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

During his career he worked as First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations of Uzbekistan (1994-1995), Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Germany and Austria, Head of the Mission of Uzbekistan to the OSCE (1996-1998), Ambassador to Japan (1998-2001), Ambassador to the Benelux countries, head of the Mission of Uzbekistan to the European Community and the Mission of Uzbekistan to NATO (2001-2004), as well as the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade (2005-2006).
