Uzbekistan and the China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) signed a memorandum of understanding for PV plants projects with a total capacity of 2,000 MW in Kashkadarya, Bukhara and Samarkand provinces, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reported.
The signing ceremony took place on February 15 as part of a visit by a delegation led by Uzbek Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov to China.
In line with the MoU, the Chinese company will invest $2 billion in direct investment in Uzbekistan’s energy sector.
The first Plamts are scheduled to be commissioned before 2024, and will reach full capacity in 2024.
This will result in generation of 5.2 billion kWh of electricity annually and saving of 1.4 BCM of gas, the Ministry of Energy stressed.
Reportedly, the parties agreed on the "swift launch of the projects.
