The chief physician of the children's multidisciplinary medical center of the Samarkand province, Professor Mamatkul Azizov, who reported the death of children after taking the Doc-1 Max cough syrup produced by the Indian Marion Biotech, was fired, the Ministry of Health said.

When asked about the reasons for the sacking of him and six other medical workers, the ministry said they planned to hold a briefing on Thursday, where they would provide an official reply.

The Ministry of Health previously reported that “for neglect of official duties, late analysis of the death of children and failure to take the necessary measures,” seven officials were fired and disciplinary measures were applied to a number of specialists.

Apert from Mamatkul Azizov, the following workers could have been fired:

  • S. Muminov, Deputy Head of Health Department of Samarkand Province for Maternal and Childhood Protection;

  • chief Specialist of the Department of Maternal and Child Health Development the Health Department of the Samarkand province S. Rasulov;

  • specialist in hemodialysis of the children's multidisciplinary medical center of Samarkand province B. Ganiev;
  • H. Muzaffarov, head of the Olmazor family doctor's office of the Taylak district medical association, U. Makhmudov, family doctor, and M. Siddikova, a nurse.

the death of children after taking the drug "Doc-1 Max cough syrup by the Indian manufacturer Marion Biotech became known from a letter from Mamatkul Azizov dated December 15, where he reported that over the past two months, 21 patients have received complaints of complications after taking the drug. They mainly observed anuria - the absence of urine flow into the bladder.

“In 17 children, the disease was extremely difficult, they even had to undergo several sessions of hemodialysis. There were 15 deaths,” the letter said.

After that, from December 22, the sale of this drug throughout Uzbekistan was temporarily suspended. The distributor of the drug Quramax Medical notified the organizations to which the drug was sold about this.

A few days later, children's ombudsman Aliya Yunusova reported the death of 18 children from Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Navoi and Samarkand provinces. Later, another child died in Kashkadarya after taking the syrup.

The Minister of Health, Bekhzod Musaev, said that information about the death of children after taking Doc-1 Max syrup was hidden from the ministry.

The State Security Service of Uzbekistan announced the initiation of a criminal case and the detention of officials of the importing company Quramax Medical and the Scientific Center for Standardization of Medicines.
