On November 15, the Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov hosted the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America Jonathan David Henick, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Reportedly, the ambassador presented the copies of his credentials to the minister. Vladimir Norov congratulated Jonathan Henick on taking office and wished him success in his work.
During the conversation, the parties reviewed the progress of the agreements previously reached by the countries, as well as the schedule of upcoming events at the bilateral level and in the C5+1 format.
The parties pointed to the untapped opportunities for building up trade and investment ties, including by attracting US capital and technology to the Uzbek economy, creating joint ventures in the fields of textiles, pharmaceuticals, energy, ICT, and strengthening financial cooperation.
The sides also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan with an emphasis on the need to expand international assistance to this country.
Jonathan Henick previously worked at the US Embassy in Uzbekistan. “I have spent most of my career working in this region. And I am delighted with the opportunity to return in a new capacity,” he said, speaking in the US Senate before his candidacy was approved for the new posting.
Among his posts was a position as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs. Since last year, he had served at the National Defense University College of Information and Cyberspace as a chair of the US Department of State.
The previous US Ambassador to Tashkent, Daniel Rosenblum, became the US Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
