The high-speed rail link between Tashkent and Almaty will be launched on March 22. The first service from Almaty, operated by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (transl. Rail Way) company, will arrive in Tashkent at about 12:50, a source in KTZ representative office said. The travel will take 16 hours.
On the same day the train will go back. Tickets to Almaty are now available at the railway ticket offices in Uzbekistan.
Agreements were reached with the border and customs services of both countries to speed up control procedures, the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy representative office added.
The high-speed train belonging to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy includes 28 cars and operates on diesel fuel. This, in turn, ensures the uninterrupted operation of air conditioners and biotoilets, KTZ emphasized.
