On April 21, the Uzbek Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade, Sardor Umurzakov held a teleconference with the Minister of Railways and Commerce of India, Piyush Goyal.

The parties discussed the ways to further advance bilateral investment, trade-economic ties, and the joint measures to minimize the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the two-way trade, the press service of the MIFT said.

The counterparts also touched upon the recently created Uzbek-Indian projects coordinating and promoting committee, and proposed to hold the first meeting of the committee in the near future in a videoconference format.

The parties agreed than both countries will be focusing on preparing specific investment proposals in the field of IT, pharmaceuticals, textile production, agriculture, building materials manufacturing, as well as export contracts with the prospect of signing deals between Uzbek and Indian investors during a joint event to be held after the improvement of global epidemiological situation.

The parties agreed to step up drafting deals on mutual protection and promotion of investments and on the preferential trade in order to complete negotiations on these accords in the near future.

The sides also touched upon issues of financial and technical cooperation–engaging prominent Indian consultants to develop and coordinate technical and economic parameters of social and infrastructure projects financed with the funds provided by Eximbank of India.

The countries plan to intensify the development of new projects for construction and reconstruction of Uzbekistan’s transport infrastructure.
