The Chinese Baibuting Group Co., Ltd. laid the ground for the $1.8 billion renewable energy project in the Akhangaran district of Tashkent province Sunday, the provincial governor’s office said.

The 666.2-hectare project will be located in the Telyau neighborhood and will encompass several phases over a three-year period.

Two 240 MW each solar-powered energy blocks will be erected in phase I, along with an energy storage system.

Further phases will include the erecting of wind turbines, additional energy storage systems, and the development of hydropower and biomass facilities, making it a comprehensive green energy complex.

The project is being implemented by the foreign-invested Ahangaran New Energy, a company registered in July 2024, according to the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organizations. Its core activity is electricity sales. The company’s sole equity holder is Hubei Baibuting Energy Technology Co. Ltd., and its director is Zhang Baofu.

The project stems from a memorandum of understanding signed in June 2024 between the Tashkent province administration and Baibuting Group. The agreement outlines a power plant project that will use solar, wind, and hydropower sources.

The initial investment for the project’s first phase will be up to $200 million, with the total planned capacity of the green power station reaching 2 GW upon completion.
