In the Committee for Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan on Wednesday was held a meeting with a delegation of the Governing Council of Jehovah's Witnesses, including representatives in the USA Kenneth Flodin and Europe Lorenzo Trapanese.

The delegation was received by the committee’s deputy chairman Utkir Hasanbayev, the press service of the committee said in a statement. In the meeting were also present the committee’s consultant B. Kadyrov and representative of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Chirchik N. Korolyov.

The purpose of the delegation's visit is to discuss the activities of Jehovah's Witnesses in Uzbekistan, Kenneth Flodin said.

"The meeting was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere," the statement added. The sides agreed to continue consultations on the issues discussed.

The Committee emphasized that Uzbekistan's legislation respects all the norms of international conventions and treaties on freedom of conscience. The Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations Law guarantees the constitutional right of citizens to profess any religion or to profess none, which corresponds to Article 29 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the UN in 1948.
