The construction of an Uzbek-Chinese pharmaceutical plant, which will specialize in the synthesis of medicinal substances, has commenced in the Navoi Free Economic Zone.

At present, the Institute for Bioorganic Chemistry and the Institute of Plant Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan has already launched production of medicinal substances, but there is no possibility of synthesizing them. The phased implementation of synthesis of a number of medicinal substances by using the latest technologies in chemistry and pharmaceuticals is now being planned.

Central Asian Research and Production Center of Biologically Active Compounds, a foreign company, has been designated as the coordinator for the US$ 10 million project.
