On December 16 was held the extraordinary session of the Surkhandarya regional council of people's deputies, the President press-service said.
On proposal of the Head of State Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Erkin Turdimov has been appointed as the new khokim (governor) of Surkhandarya region, he previously served as the khokim of Navoi region. Tojimurod Mamaraimov, former Surkhandarya region khokim, in January 2015 took over as khokim of Qiziriq district in the same region.
The 47-year-old Turdimov, a native of Samarkand region, from 1991 to 1995 served in the regional offices of Uzpromstroybank, afterwards until 1996 was the deputy khokim of Zarafshan district. Having worked from 1996 to 2000 in Navoi branch of the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activities, he served as the khokim of Khatyrchi district of Navoi region. In 2008, prior to the appointment as Navoi region khokim, Turdimov served as First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources.
