A bank loan officer in Kokand has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for murdering a client to steal his cash and attempting to cover up the crime, according to a report by the Millar news program.
The crime took place on March 30. Investigators revealed that the client, identified as S.E., visited the bank branch to apply for a promotional auto loan. The loan officer, A.T., learned that the client was carrying $5,700 in cash to pay for the vehicle and, as determined by the court, plotted to steal the money.
Following an initial dispute inside the bank, the two men left together in S.E.’s Chevrolet Tracker. A second argument erupted once they drove outside the city limits. Case files show that A.T. used a kitchen knife to stab the victim more than 20 times in the neck and torso, killing him.
The defendant then left the body inside the vehicle, returned to the bank, and worked until the end of his shift. That evening, in an attempt to destroy evidence, he drove the body to the Great Fergana Canal in the Uzbekistan province and dumped it into the water.
The victim's body was recovered six days later.
The victim's mother shared that her son had left the house that day with $5,700, intended to purchase a Chevrolet Onix.
"After having three daughters, we prayed so hard for this boy. I gave him the $5,700 for the Onix. My husband and I gave him our blessings, and he left the house so happy," she said.
The Kokand City Criminal Court found the defendant guilty under clauses "g" and "i" of Part 2, Article 97 of the Criminal Code (premeditated murder committed with extreme cruelty and for financial gain).
He was sentenced to 18 years in a general-regime penal colony. Additionally, the court ordered the defendant to pay material and moral damages to the victim's legal representative.
