President Mirziyoyev signed a decree on August 28 setting a new limit of $10,000 (or its equivalent) on the amount of cash currency individuals can take out of the country.
The decree approves a "roadmap" for further reforming the customs sector, simplifying certain procedures, and digitizing customs processes. Under the roadmap, individuals leaving Uzbekistan will be allowed to carry out up to $10,000 in cash without declaring it; any amount above that threshold must be declared to customs.
A draft law formalizing this change is to be developed by December 2027. The Customs Committee, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Central Bank, and the Ministry of Justice have been tasked with implementing the reform.
Under current rules, individuals carrying more than the equivalent of 100 million soums in cash — whether in Uzbek soums or foreign currency — into or out of the country must declare it on a customs form and submit it to a customs officer. The previous threshold was 70 million soums.
