Gayratjon Eshpulatov, the mayor of Zafarabad district in Jizzakh province, was injured in a car accident along with his minor son. The two were riding in an official Kia Seltos on August 30 when the vehicle collided with a MAZ truck.
Reports had suggested the mayor's son may have been behind the wheel at the time of the crash. However, the district administration denied this, stating that the hokim himself was driving.
The Jizzakh branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care said Eshpulatov's condition is serious and that he remains in intensive care.
Doctors have diagnosed him with a fracture of the right femur and the left shin. His son is in stable condition with a broken leg.
According to the district administration, the head-on collision occurred as the truck was making a left turn.
Eshpulatov has served as the mayor of Zafarabad district since March 2024. He previously served as deputy hokim of Pakhtakor district, overseeing agriculture and water management.
