The grand opening ceremony for the Uzbekistan Mahalla (Uzbekistan Neighborhood), Shavkat Mirziyoyev Boulevard, and Tashkent and Samarkand streets—all built by Uzbekistan—took place in the earthquake-hit Arsuz district of Hatay Province, Turkey, the Dunyo news agency reported.
The ceremony was attended by an Uzbek delegation led by Nuriddin Ismoilov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber, alongside Khorezm province Governor Jurabek Rakhimov. Turkish dignitaries included Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye, and Mustafa Masatlı, Governor of Hatay Province, along with local officials and community members.
Hatay Governor Mustafa Masatlı emphasized that the Turkish people will never forget the assistance provided by Uzbekistan following the devastating earthquake on February 6, 2023.
"On behalf of the residents of Hatay, I express my deepest gratitude to the friendly and brotherly people of Uzbekistan. This residential complex, officially opened during the Uzbek President's visit to Ankara in January this year, was named 'Uzbekistan Neighborhood.' It stands as a shining example of the eternal friendship between our nations," the governor said.
The neighborhood features streets named Samarkand and Tashkent, the Bukhara Congregational Mosque, the "Friendship" Park of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and a boulevard named after Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It also includes a community kitchen furnished in accordance with national traditions, children's playgrounds, and recreational areas.
According to UzA, the modern residential complex on the Mediterranean coast consists of 24 apartment buildings with more than 300 fully furnished homes. Equipped with all necessary infrastructure, the complex has become a powerful symbol of eternal friendship and solidarity between the Uzbek and Turkish peoples.
