Two tax inspectors from Tashkent’s Yunusabad district have been caught accepting a bribe, the State Security Service said.

Operating in collusion and abusing their official positions, the inspectors promised a local business owner assistance in leasing three retail shops from the "Chilonzor Buyum Bozori Kompleksi" (Chilonzor Flea Market Complex) JSC. In exchange for securing a win for the entrepreneur's LLC in an open tender through their connections and finalizing the lease agreements, the inspectors demanded $5,000.

The tax officials were caught red-handed with the money during a sting operation. A criminal case has been launched against them, and an investigation is currently underway.

This arrest follows a pattern of recent crackdowns on corruption within tax authorities. In April, a tax official in Sirdaryo was arrested for accepting gold jewelry as a bribe. On May 19, criminal charges were brought against a deputy head of a tax inspection office and a former deputy governor in Samarkand for bribery. Earlier that same month, two other tax inspectors from Tashkent’s Bektemir district were also apprehended in a bribery scheme.
