A specialized commission has issued a warning regarding potential short-term dust storms across the country, including the capital city of Tashkent.
According to forecasts from the World Meteorological Organization’s Beijing Provincial Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment Center, alongside Uzhydromet, brief dust storms are possible in Karakalpakstan, as well as the Bukhara, Navoiy, Tashkent, Jizzakh, Sirdaryo, and Surkhandarya provinces. These conditions are expected to develop just ahead of incoming humid air masses.
Weather models indicate variable cloudiness throughout the day, with localized, brief rain showers and thunderstorms possible in certain areas. Wind speeds are projected at 10–12 m/s, with gusts potentially reaching 12–18 m/s in some sectors. It is against the backdrop of these intensifying winds that localized dust storms may manifest.
Consequently, these atmospheric shifts could trigger a temporary spike in airborne dust particles, particularly concentrating PM10 particulate matter. However, this deterioration in air quality is expected to be short-lived, with brief afternoon rainfall projected to gradually clear the air.
Public health experts advise taking standard precautions during periods of high winds. This guidance is especially critical for individuals suffering from respiratory illnesses, allergies, or cardiovascular conditions. The public is urged to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure unless necessary, keep windows and doors tightly shut, and wear protective masks when outside.
The specialized commission is continuously monitoring air quality levels, and officials confirm that the situation remains under close administrative control.
