President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a series of proposals aimed at boosting safety standards and service quality across the Tashkent Metro network Wednesday.
The city's transit vision outlines an ambitious roadmap through 2030, targeting a daily ridership of 1.8 million passengers. The plan calls for expanding the network to 79 stations, extending tracks to a total of 103 kilometers, and cutting train wait times down to a swift 1.5 to 3 minutes.
Between 2026 and 2028, efforts will focus heavily on elevating the overall commuter experience while modernizing technical infrastructure for civil defense systems within the subway lines.
To maximize rider safety, officials proposed a pilot project to install protective glass platform screen doors at the Shahristan station. Presenters highlighted global data showing that these barriers successfully reduce platform-related accidents by 80% to 90%. Beyond their safety benefits, the glass enclosures will serve as an additional revenue stream by doubling as digital advertising spaces.
The strategy places a strong emphasis on establishing new revenue channels. The transit authority plans to auction off digital ad spaces inside train cars and across station platforms to the private sector. Additionally, the metro will introduce vending machines, small retail kiosks on-site, and dedicated parking lots adjacent to key stations.
Furthermore, empty administrative buildings and unused spaces within the subway network will be auctioned off to entrepreneurs to be repurposed into modern co-working spaces and micro-offices.
