Uzbekistan plans to launch its first national astronaut into space by October 2028, Muhiddin Ibrohimov, Deputy Director of the Uzbekcosmos Agency said.
He stated that the mission will last 14 days. Negotiations are currently underway with the three nations capable of human spaceflight: the United States, Russia, and China.
All parties have expressed their readiness to cooperate. The mission is designed with a heavy focus on research, intending for the Uzbek astronaut to return with vital data from scientific experiments in medicine, biology, genetics, and other high-priority fields.
Prospective candidates must meet specific criteria: be between 27 and 40 years old, hold a university degree, stand between 160 and 190 cm tall, weigh between 50 and 95 kg, and possess strong foreign language skills.
Officials previously revealed that the recruitment process will be organized as a nationwide initiative. A dedicated state commission will be established to oversee the selection, rigorous training, and ultimate coordination of the historic space mission.
