During its latest plenary session, the MPs of the Legislative Chamber passed the Status of Military Personnel and Their Social Protection Bill in its first reading, the press service of the chamber said.

The bill codifies critical legal guarantees and includes financial allowances, high-quality medical care, housing provisions, mandatory state insurance, pension benefits, and compensation payments in the event of injury or death while serving in the line of duty.

To reinforce the social safety net for military personnel, the bill has proposed several new benefits. For instance, veterans honorably discharged after serving at least 20 years will be eligible to receive subsidized vouchers to health resorts and wellness spas once a year. Under this scheme, the service member pays 25% of the voucher cost, while the remaining 75% is covered by the budget of their respective ministry or agency.

Additionally, the bill law allows for an annual financial assistance payout to military personnel of up to 100 times the base reference value (BRV), or 41.2 million soums.

Lawmakers emphasized that this bill is essential for clearly defining the legal standing of service members, strengthening their social protections, raising the prestige of military careers, and establishing robust safety nets for the defenders of the country and their families.
