Construction began on May 7 for a new electrified railway line connecting Nurafshan, Pskent, Buka, Bekabad, Bayaut, and Yangiyer, the Uzbekistan Railways press service said. Spanning 110 kilometers, the new route will create a vital link between the Tashkent and Syrdarya provinces.
Ceremonies marking the start of construction were held simultaneously in the Urtachirchik and Bekabad districts of the Tashkent province. The events were attended by the Governor of the Tashkent province, Zoyir Mirzaev, and the Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways, Zufar Narzullaev, while the Governor of the Bekabad district, Zainilobiddin Nizomiddinov, joined via video link.
The large-scale project includes the construction of four railway stations, 21 overpasses, six bridges, and a traction substation.
Zoyir Mirzaev expressed confidence that the new line will accelerate the province’s economic growth, boost employment, and significantly improve transport connectivity.
The planned route is designed to bypass residential areas without intersecting existing roads or rail lines. Officials noted that the project was specifically engineered to ensure minimal environmental impact.
Plans for this project and other electrified lines were first announced in November 2025. By 2030, Uzbekistan aims to build 151 km of new tracks, electrify 182 km of existing lines, modernize 27 stations, and upgrade 1,000 km of the national rail network.
