Efforts have been consistently continued to expand forest areas, restore degraded lands, and combat desertification as part of Uzbekistan-2030 strategy. This year, the main forest reclamation measures were performed at the dry bed of the Aral Sea and the Aral Sea coast.
Reportedly, during the year, forest creation and restoration covered 150.7 thousand hectares. The main part of forest reclamation measures fell on the dry bed of the Aral Sea and the Aral Sea coast, where 145.2 thousand hectares were cultivated. The largest ratio falls on Muynak district, where 90.5 thousand hectares of forests were created. Significant work was also completed in a number of districts of Bukhara, Navoi and Khorezm provinces. An additional 5.5 thousand hectares of forests were created in other provinces.
Systematic work is also being carried out to develop nurseries and strengthen the material base of forestry. 979 tons of tree and shrub seeds have been prepared to ensure stable rates of greening. Modern nurseries have been established in all forestry enterprises on an area of 1,300 hectares, where 123 million seedlings and saplings adapted to local soil and climatic conditions are being grown.
In order to prevent land degradation, protective forest belts have been created on 1,390 hectares in desert and mountainous areas, where forests have been created using the terracing method on 41 hectares. Plantations of medicinal and food plants have been developed, and 7,918 tons of products have been grown on an area of 5,890 hectares.
As part of increasing the efficiency of forest fund use, 4,842 hectares of land previously considered low-yielding have been developed. While, 1,530 hectares of forest fund plots were leased through online auctions, which will serve to attract private investment and develop entrepreneurship in the sector.
As part of implementing advanced foreign experience, 30,000 brussonettia seedlings were imported from China, and experimental plantations were created on their basis on an area of 100 hectares. Work has begun on the creation of a new halophyte garden of salt-tolerant plants in Arnasay district, for which 1,315 kg of seeds of 35 species of halophyte plants were imported from China.
All these steps resulted in the area of forests covering the territory of the country reached 4.7 million hectares.
