Today, the Anti-Trust Committee announced the launch of a probe into the actions of mobile operators in Uzbekistan. The day before, several major operators announced price increases effective December 1, sparking a public outcry.
Much of the criticism is prompted not by the price increases, but rather is due to the poor quality of communication and internet.
The Committee is investigating the operators' actions for cartel collusion—the coordinated simultaneous price increases to increase profits.
The Committee is currently reviewing the information provided regarding the impact of operators' spending on improving service quality and expanding coverage. Should the probe confirm collusion by operators, an investigation will be conducted in accordance with established procedures, and if such cases are confirmed, strict measures will be taken in accordance with current legislation, the statement concluded.
