President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed Setting up Uzbekistan - U.S. Business and Investment Council decree, which also stipulates opening of more Uzbek consulates in the United States. The Foreign Ministry has been given directives to work on this matter within one month.
The new diplomatic missions will be staffed with personnel to focus on key U.S. industry hubs to ensure geographic coverage and given the higher concentration of Uzbek diasporas (Philadelphia, Chicago, Orlando, and Seattle).
One of the main objectives of the future consulates will be the development and successful implementation of a model for effective interaction with the Uzbek diasporas living in all U.S. states.
They will also be entasked to enhance business cooperation, successfully implement the objectives and projects of the U.S.-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council, and facilitate the work of the Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington— an official of the Presidential Administration in the United States. This position will be created as of January 1, 2026, to improve the effectiveness of coordinating foreign policy and government initiatives, according to the decree.
The Minister-Counselor will be appointed and fired by the Head of the Presidential Administration, Saida Mirziyoyeva, who had been appointed Co-Chair of the U.S.-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council.
The Minister-Counselor will be responsible for directly initiating and discussing the implementation of major and strategic investment and trade projects in Uzbekistan and the United States, as well as comprehensively coordinating the council's work on the Uzbek side.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan is located in Washington, D.C., with a Consulate General in New York.
