The president Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed decree Monday introducing 30-day visa-free for US nationals starting January 1, 2026, the state-owned Uzbekistan News Agency said.
Reportedly, the goal of the Decree is to facilitate further development of trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian relations and to boost tourism between the two countries.
In 2021 Uzbekistan had introduced 30-day visa-free for US nationals (and nationals of several other countries) aged 55 and over for tourism purposes.
Plans to introduce a visa-free for US nationals were mentioned in the president's May 15, 2025 Measures to drastically increase the flow of tourists to the country Decree.
Prior to this the United States had virtually been the only developed country to which the Uzbek authorities had not been introducing tourist visa-free.
That Decree also gave a directive to the Foreign Ministry to begin negotiations with the United States regarding easing the US visa requirements for Uzbeks.
