Former deputy speaker of Afghanistan’s parliament, Abbas Ibrahimzada has been arrested in Tashkent and held in custody for the past week, Amu.tv reported.
Reportedly, a source close to him said Ibrahimzada was detained on Sept. 24 following multiple complaints filed by his business rivals. The source added that despite paying more than $350,000 in bail, he has not been released.
Abbas Ibrahimzada has invested more than $50 million in Uzbekistan over the past four years in sectors including commercial transport and flour production. His detention has raised concerns about disruptions to his companies’ operations.
Ibrahimzada has not commented publicly on the case.
