The bilateral ties between Uzbekistan and the United States have now moved to a period of stability and predictability, the presidential adviser on foreign policy Abdulaziz Kamilov told Uzbekistan 24 in an interview today.

According to him, the relations between the countries have gone through two distinct stages. Before 2017, cooperation "was not sufficiently stable" and was primarily limited to security issues and Afghanistan. "As for trade, economic, or investment cooperation, unfortunately, we have not achieved any tangible results," he admitted.

With the accession of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to power in 2017, a new stage with the United States began.

"Our president's official visit to Washington in 2018 was heralded as the beginning of a new era of strategic partnership. And this stage is characterized by the formation of a comprehensive agenda that encompasses virtually all possible areas of our cooperation. This includes politics, economics, humanitarian cooperation, education, and, of course, regional security issues," Kamilov underscored.

As the presidential adviser noted, virtually all representatives of the American elite, including political circles and business, recognize that the countries are at the beginning of a new phase of cooperation.

"The main outcome of these talks between the two leaders, during which the strategic dimensions of our future interaction were discussed, is that relations have moved to a phase of stability and predictability," Kamilov said.

He added that Shavkat Mirziyoyev's initiatives, announced at the UN General Assembly, are based on the country's national interests and are acquiring global significance.

"These initiatives and proposals are directly related to the vital national and state interests of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Why are they global? Because a number of challenges, threats, and dangers existing in the region around Uzbekistan can only be addressed at a broad international and even global level," Kamilov said.

He noted that the president prioritizes security, the environment, the fate of the Aral Sea, and youth.

"Based on this, the president has put forward these global initiatives. His focus is primarily on the country of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan, and once again Uzbekistan," the adviser emphasized.
