The Deputy Foreign Minister Muzaffar Madrakhimov and US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Brent Christensen signed a Nuclear Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (NCMOU).

“Great meeting in New York with Deputy Foreign Minister Muzaffar Madrakhimov of Uzbekistan. Grateful for Uzbekistan’s partnership on counterterrorism and other shared security challenges. U.S.-Uzbekistan economic ties are on solid ground with expanding the American investment potential in nuclear energy, critical minerals, and other sectors”, the Under Secretary Christensen said on his X account.

The NCMOU establishes the basis for broader cooperation on atomic energy between our two countries’ experts and industries. “This is in keeping with President Trump’s Executive Order to help the U.S. nuclear industry compete worldwide!" Brent Christensen added.

This summer, Uzbek senators passed Uzbekistan's accession to the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill, which has proposed legal mechanisms for insurance and compensation in connection with the construction of the country's first nuclear power plant.
