Neighbourhood police officer driving a GM Matiz while intoxicated struck a 63-year-old man on a bicycle on September 16 at 7:15 PM in Furkat district of Fergana province. The pensioner died at the scene from his injuries.
According to eyewitnesses and the victim's relatives, the driver fled the scene without helping the eldrly man. After the accident, the officer's father took the victim to the hospital and told doctors he found him unconscious. The hospital pronounced him dead. The victim's family is demanding a fair punishment.
The victim's wife stated: Could a police officer drive while intoxicated? Shouldn't he set an example for others? We cannot forgive him for fleeing instead of helping my husband.
