The Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke to the Russian president Vladimir Putin over telephone today, the presidential press service said.

"The President of Russia reported on the main results of the talks with the Special Envoy of the US President Steven Witkoff, held on August 6 in Moscow," the statement said.

Furthermore, the parties discussed the ways to develop and strengthen the Uzbek-Russian comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance ties in the context of the implementation of agreements at the highest level.

They also focused on coordinating measures to increase the bilateral trade and investment, expediting projects, continuing productive contacts, business and humanitarian exchanges at the provinces level.

The leaders of Uzbekistan and Russia also reviewed the schedule of upcoming meetings and events.

On August 6, the Special Envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff held talks with Vladimir Putin in Moscow. After Witkoff left Moscow, the New York Times, citing two sources, reported that a meeting between Donald Trump and Putin could take place next week, followed by a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Kremlin reported that Russia and the United States had agreed on a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump “in the coming days.” Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had previously welcomed direct talks between Ukraine and Russia, the first since 2022, which took place on May 16 in Istanbul. Meanwhile, he reiterated Uzbekistan’s position on the military conflict: the situation around Ukraine “must be resolved exclusively by diplomatic means and respecting the international law.”
