The MPs passed a resolution on changing the borders of Kattakurgan city, Kattakurgan and Nurabad districts of the Samarkand province at the Legislative Chamber meeting on Tuesday.

The report was made by Dilrabo Kholbaeva, an MP from the Adolat party. According to her, the project provides for the transfer of 1,945 hectares of land in Kattakurgan district and 971 hectares of Nurabad district to Kattakurgan city and 600 hectares of land in the Nurabad district to Kattakurgan district.

As a result, Kattakurgan will move from the category of medium to the category of large cities due to an increase in area from 4,362 to 7,278 hectares, while bringing the city’s population from about 96 thousand people to 136 thousand.

Dilrabo Kholbaeva added that as a result of the change in borders, new production and service facilities wiould be set up, and more jobs to be created. In particular, it is planned to create a branch of the Urgut free economic zone on 50 hectares, as well as three small industrial zones on 30 hectares.

By 2030, the number of industrial enterprises in the province will rise from 332 to 500, and the volume of industrial output per capita by 1.5 times.

Furthermore, it is planned to increase the volume of services in the province by 1.8 times by ensuring the growth of the number of enterprises in this area from 981 to 1285, as well as bringing their number to 3000 by 2030.

Deputy governor of Samarkand province in charge of capital construction, communications, public utilities, ecology and landscaping Akmal Shukurov noted that large-scale complex works are ongoing in Kattakurgan, large projects are being considered, but the only obstacle to their implementation for a long time was the unresolved issue of expanding the city's borders. The issue of making changes to the borders was discussed in the mahallas, as well as the provinceal council and the councils of people's deputies of Kattakurgan, Kattakurgan and Nurabad districts, drawings and classification of border lines were approved.
