The Chairman of the State Security Service (SSS), Colonel General Bakhodir Kurbanov met with the Acting Minister of National Defense of Afghanistan, Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid in Kabul Monday, the press service of the Afghan Ministry of Defense.
The delegation also included Deputy Head of the SSS, Major General Farrukh Mukhtarov, and Commander of the Border Troops, Major General Salimjon Khusanov.
Reportedly, Bakhodir Kurbanov commended the level of security and economic development in the country, and also emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations.
In response, Mohammad Yaqub thanked Uzbekistan for its "constructive position on international platforms regarding Afghanistan" and noted the enhanced cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
The parties discussed the border cooperation, development of communications, and other topics.
In February, the acting Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar visited Uzbekistan and met with Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, when agreements were reached on reducing duties on 10 goods, with the parties discussing investments in gas production and a cement plant, reducing the cost of power lines by $30 million, and other matters.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev earlier met with Abdul Ghani Baradar in early July. The parties vowed to bring bilateral trade with Uzbekistan to $2 billion and increase exports to Central Asia and Russia. Uzbekistan is ready to supply more power, invest in the creation of textile factories, cement production, oil refineries, and the extraction and processing of salt.
