On the night of June 21, residents of Uzumbog street in Almazar district in the north of Tashkent reported of a strong smell of hydrogen sulfide.
The Air.Tashkent.uz portal of the city mayor’s office signaled a “very dangerous” level of air pollution at 2:00 am.
Having received a signal about this, officers of the radiation, chemical and medical-biological protection team of Tashkent emergency situations department went to the scene, the press service of the Emergency Situations Ministry reported at 3:20 am.
A preliminary check found a leak of hydrogen peroxide from a container in one of the warehouses. Additional units and resources were brought in to handle the emergency.
Reportedly, the leak was eliminated at 4:00 am, the Ministry of Emergency Situations later reported, with an investigation into the causes of the incident now launched.
