The Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will travel to Uzbekistan on May 28-29, the press service of the Italian government reported. The talks and meetings will take place in Samarkand.
Giorgia Meloni's official visit to Uzbekistan was initially scheduled for April 25-26. As part of her Central Asia tour she was also scheduled to attend the first Central Asia-Italy summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Due to the death of Pope Francis on April 21, the trips to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan were postponed.
In June 2023, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Italy, where a Strategic Partnership Declaration and accords worth over 9 billion euros were signed. The Italian President Sergio Mattarella landed in Uzbekistan in November 2023, visiting Tashkent, Samarkand and Khiva.
In 2024, the trade between Uzbekistan and Italy topped $438 million dollars, of which Uzbekistan's exports stood at 44.6 million dollars, and imports - 393.4 million.
