President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev signed a Declaration on strategic partnership, strengthening of friendship, good-neighborliness and trust between the two countries following the talks in Tashkent on Thursday.

"Now we have no problems left at all. In fact, there are many problems, but with the political will of the two leaders we have found compromises. There are some concerns, but they are solvable," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said after the talks.

According to him, in addition to the 12 accords signed during the visit, the presidents instructed the ministries and departments to prepare another 5-6 documents for signing.

"Who would have imagined that 85% of [the state border] would be settled ... The Parliaments have already ratified them in such a short period of time. If there was no such political will, would we have achieved this? Never! There would be many questions remaining, as always, many reasons for experts and parliamentarians to complain about, "the President of Uzbekistan noted.

"We signed the Declaration on Strategic Partnership, Strengthening Friendship, Good-Neighborliness and Confidence between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. All this for the sake, needs, desires and aspirations of our peoples. We as leaders are going to ensure that these wishes are met," the head of state stressed.

During the talks, special attention was paid to counteraction and joint struggle against modern threats and challenges - terrorism, extremism, religious radicalism, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said. With this in mind, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan.

"I'll tell you frankly: we are talking for the first time about military cooperation. The times are requiring, and we are implementing, because around the region and in the world today the times are not tranquil," he underscored.

During talks we focused on increasing the two-way trade and creating joint production capacities. "There are already specific developments in this area," Shavkat Mirziyoyev added. "We are satisfied with the results of the joint business forum and the exhibition of products of our enterprises held today for the first time in many years."

"Over the past six months, there have been many meetings: long, sometimes unpleasant, but we had to talk with each other to reach today's agreement. And we came to the common opinion that we must solve these issues, no matter how hard they are, and because people want it. You know, the entire border is purely symbolic, but in reality people live there who speak the same language," he said.

"Openness and confidence are not always inherent in many leaders," Shavkat Mirziyoyev continued. "But when the leaders take away their ambitions, when the mind prevails in the interests of the peoples of the two countries, then the goals will be achieved."

"On October 15 is scheduled a political event - the election of the President of Kyrgyzstan. I am sure that the wise Kyrgyz people will choose a worthy leader for themselves. Under the leadership of Almazbek Sarshenovich over the years, much has been done. Most importantly, peace and tranquility prevail in Kyrgyzstan today, people have confidence in the future, and I very much want this continuity to persist. Leaders come and go, but the peoples remain," he said.

"I am sincerely grateful to Almazbek Sharshenovich for his sincerity, frankness and attitude to cooperation, I am grateful that today there is a joint mutual desire to solve all problems," the President of Uzbekistan concluded.

Almazbek Atambayev noted that Shavkat Mirziyoyev is like his brother.

"Today is one of the happiest days in my life, because we are doing what our people, our citizens are waiting for," the President of Kyrgyzstan confessed.

"I would like the border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan to be from now on the border of friendship and cooperation," he said.

"I see and I hope that, by December 1, we will settle the remaining 217 km [of the state border], especially since 40 km have already been settled... Each and every checkpoint, which had been closed for many years, when they opens, how wonderful indeed it is," - Almazbek Atambayev added.

The parties agreed on intensification of direct contacts between regions and businessmen of the two countries. Between the khokimiyat of Ferghana and the Batken municipality, as well as the Namangan hokimiyat and the Jalal-Abad mayor's office, agreements on cooperation in the trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres were signed.
